With the rapid development of society and economy,the conflict of water resource supply and demand intensifies increasingly.The study of water resource carrying capacity has become a point and hot issue in the field of water resource science.The research of water resource carrying capacity has not form a uniform concept and theory system up to now.The paper reviews the researches of water resource carrying capacity both in China and in other countries from the side of the notion, the theory study and the index system of evaluation of water resource carrying capacity.To assess the water resource carrying capacity using the method of TOPSIS and to analyse the evolution of the water resource carrying capacity in the karst area are the main content of the paper.The basic principle of TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution)is to ensure a good or bad project through ranking order by using of ideal or negative solution of multiple object decision-making.TOPSIS has not strict limitation to date distribution,sample quantity and index quantity.TOPSIS also has other advantages such as easy to calculation,intuitional and certain ranking order.Some assessmental indexes which include per capita water supply,urban per capita water consumption,rural per capita water consumption,irrigative water of per mu cropland, industry water consumption of ten thousand increased value,per capita grain output,per capita GDP,the proportion of environmental water consumption,the proportion of forest distribution,the proportion of rock-desertification area,the ratio of waste water and flow were selected to evaluate water resource carrying capacity in Guizhou province.The order of water resource carrying capacity is that:Guiyang region>Zunyi region>Qiandongnan state>Qiannan state>Tongren region>Qianxinan state>Liupanshui region>Anshun region>Bijie region.In view of the analyzing the evolution of water resource carrying capacity in the karst area,the author explains the theory of water resource carrying capacity,concluding the evolution characteristic of water carrying capacity on the aspect of impact factor of evolution of water carrying capacity system,the phase of evolutionary process and non-synchronous of evolutionary phase.The evolution of water resources carrying capacity of Guiyang region were analyzed using the method of the gray relational differential entropy of the system on the water resources carrying capacity.It showed that the grade of harmony of the system on water resource carrying capacity in Guiyang region is imperfect and the effective measures must to be taken in order to hold back the downtrend of system.The reason for leading to water resource carrying capacity worsening and reasonable arrangement to improve it were pointed out.The following measures are indispensable to optimize the system of water resource carrying capacity such as fighting against water pollution in order to improve environment,increasing project investment to enhance the power of water supply and strengthening consciousness of water saving to construct water-saving society.
