The design of tipping paper-cutting device is one of the most important issues for tobacco machinery designers. Tobacco machinery and equipment has been upgraded constantly as the development of industrial technology in China. However, the tipping paper-cutting device has been using Germanic patented invention. And this becomes a bottleneck which restricts Chinese tobacco machinery and equipment into the international market. Therefore, it is necessary to research the relevant theory of paper-cutting device and design a tipping paper-cutting device with independent intellectual property rights through technical innovation.In allusion to the high-speed space motion and synchronous paper-cutting problem, the article proposes a vertical high-speed rotary paper-cutting manner innovatively. A vertical high-speed rotary tipping paper-cutting device(VHRTD) is designed by using of CAD/CAE technology in limited scope. The mathematical models and curve quation of cutting edge are derived by using analytic method based on optimizing the dsign parameters such as tool numbers, installation angle, rotating center and so on. The correctness of the structural design is validated by virtual prototype simulation and physical prototype testing analysis which provides a new approach to the cutting process of tipping paper.First of all, the article summarizes the history and current situation at home and abroad of tipping paper-cutting device, focusing on analysis of the paper-cutting principle of existing devices and its pros and cons. Secondly, according to modern mechanical design methods and meshing theory of object space motion, the article designs a project which has a completely different cutting principle based on the assembly principle. The focus and the difficult in design process have been set out according to the general mechanical design procedures. Finally, the simulation model and test platforms of VHRTD are set up. And the motion characteristics, cutting precision, assembly methods and cutting effects are analyzed through the virtual prototype simulation and physical prototype testing methods. Combined simulation with test results, the article makes a practicable improved proposal. In addition, VHRTD can be applied in other industries after change the paper-cutting blade`s structure and material according to the actual needs.
