The biggest advantage of water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper is free of volatile organic solvents. As a kind of environmental ink, it can not only reduce the emissions of VOC and do no harm to ink manufacturers and printers, but also improve the quality of printing environment, which meets the non-toxic requirements of ink and coating used by tipping paper. Since tipping paper has characteristics of good solvent absorption performance and high surface roughness, it is of important significance to research the performances of water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper for researching and developing high quality ink, such as aridity, leveling, gloss and chromaticity, besides solving the traditional problems like the dispersion of ink.The based ink was prepared by high speed grinding machine through changing types of grinding media, grinding time, sequence of adding resins, the ratio of pigment and resin and the content of auxiliaries, etc. And the influence of dispersing technology on the dispersion of ink was discussed. Then water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper was made through changing the ratio of pigment and resin, content of cosolvent, the variety and content of auxiliaries, as well as film-forming resin. And the printability of the ink was tested. The proofs were attained by IGT printability instrument. The influence of variety and content of every component on the printability of ink and printing quality was researched. Various performances of the ink were tested through printing with gravure machine. And application of water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper was researched.The results show:The grinding effect was the best when the diameter of zircon beads was1.6-1.8mm. And the effect with zircon beads was better than one with silica beads. The water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper with good dispersion could be obtained by adding grinding resin and film-forming resin in different time. Particle of ink was the smallest when the grinding time was2hours. The ratio of pigment and resin had an obvious effect on the dispersion of the ink. The right ratio of pigment and resin was needed to get good dispersion performance in the system of water-based gravure ink water-based gravure ink used by tipping paper. It also shows that proper content of dispersant was good for the dispersion of ink. And the thickener named ATX-01could improve dispersion performance, as well as gloss and rub resistance of ink in a certain extent. The compositions of ink had great influence on the printability of ink and printing quality. Among them, ratio of pigment and resin, as well as the variety and content of film-forming resin, had great influence on every performances of the ink. The variety and content of substrate wetting agent had a great influence on gloss and rub resistance of ink. The variety and content of thickener significantly influenced the aridity and leveling of ink. The content of wax emulsion had effects on gloss and rub resistance of ink. The effect of the content of leveling agent on leveling, gloss and rub resistance of ink was obvious. The ratio of alcohol and deionized water and the content of CaCO3had a great influence on aridity of ink. Proper content of PVA could improve the leveling of ink.
