In this paper, m-xylene alkyl ketones ,prepared by Friedel-Crafts acylation of p-xylene benzene and fatty chloride of diverse carbon chain, reacted with Grignard reagents to give alkyl aryl tert-alcohol (aryl and hydroxyl were attached to the same carbon),by two different sulfonation method, finally nine kinds of new aryl alkoxy alkyl sulfonate,codenamed respectively C12-5-2S,C12-5-3S,C12-5-4S,C14-5-2S,C14-5-3S,C14-5-4S,C16-5-2S,C16-5-3 S,C16-5-4S and four kinds of alkyl aryl sulfonate codenamed MФC16-3S,MФC16-5S,MФC16-7S,DMФC16-7S were synthesized.The structures of the intermediates and the final products were proved by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and ESI-MS to be right as expected.By measuring the surface tension, the surface properties of several products were investigated. The results showed that, when aromatic ring carbon chain length unchanged among the C12-5-2S,C12-5-3S and C12-5-4S, as -CH2- increased in the alkoxy, the cmc and Am of the surfactant increased whileΓmax andγcmc reduced . Among the homologues, when aromatic ring carbon chain length increased among C12-5-3S,C14-5-3S and C16-5-3S, the cmc andγcmc of the surfactant reduced.The minimum alkane carbon number of the surfactants was also investigated by scanning interfacial tension measurement. The results showed that for new aryl alkoxy alkyl sulfonate,when aromatic ring carbon chain length unchanged as -CH2- increased in the alkoxy, the HLB value of the system decreased and minimum alkane carbon number increased,that is to say that it showed strong alkane selective behavior. Among the homologues, when aromatic ring carbon chain length increased it showed the same results.When aromatic ring carbon chain length increased the minimum interfacial tension became lower. For alkyl aryl sulfonate ,among the isomers as the aromatic ring shifting to the middle of the long carbonic chain, the nmin value increased gradually as the branched degree increased.And more lipophilic group can also lead higher nmin value.During a certain concentration, the effect of different concentration of sulfonates and sodium chloride on the interfacial tension was studied and finally a suitable explanation was given.How these factors such as different kinds of fatty alcohol as additives and the concentration difference of fatty alcohol effects on minimum alkane carbon number was studied in this paper. Both the carbon chain length of fatty alcohols and the concentration of fatty alcohol increased may lower the HLB value of the system that is to say the hydrophobicity increased, eventually making the minimum number of alkane carbon appeared in high-alkane carbon.How the nature of oil phase effects on the dynamic interfacial tension was that the solution of surfactant can balance interfacial tension in a shorter processing time with a larger number of alkane carbon.
