Detecting of fire source is to determine the location and area of spontaneous combustion fire. Because fire source has very obvious concealment, and it's detecting principle is measuring the physical or chemical variable quantity of coal body or its surrounding medium during spontaneous combustion of coal, so we can use this to determine the location and area spontaneous combustion fire. This paper makes use of the principle of different temperature has different IR(infrared ray) radiation field for object, and uses IR imaging detecting technique to detect suspected coal body and its surrounding rock, so as to determine the character and area of spontaneous combustion coal body. This will be provide powerful assistant measure for predicton of spontaneous combustion risk and comprehensive treatment of fire area in coal mine.Starting from the theory of IR radiation, the paper brings forward the method which is uses IR imaging detecting technique to detect spontaneous combustion area and risky area, according to the risk of spontaneous combustion and the characteristic of temperature field distribution owing to temperature difference between high temperature coal body and surrounding rock. Thus, the paper determines the practical technical parameters of thermoviewer and chooses suitable thermoviewer for coal mine according to the principle of IR detecting technique and special environment of coal mine. After that, reduce the possible error from environment influence by analyseing the possible influence for thermoviewer from special underground environment. Finally, the paper puts forward three techniques: the hazard detecting and identifying of spontaneous combustion of laneway, fire identifying of spontaneous combustion and treatment effect testing of fire area, and summarizes the commonly rules of them. The research establishes the basis of method perfection and application field extension. The site application result shows that IR imaging technique can be used to determine spontaneous combustion hazard of laneway and predict the occurrence of fire. During the process of comprehensive treatment of spontaneous combustion fire, we can make a qualitative and quantitative judgment for fire area and degree of spontaneous combustion based on temperature field of coal and rock body of fire area, as well as establishes the measures of fire treatment and makes testing on the effect based on the result of IR imaging detecting. Combining GPS technique with radon-measuring technique can make exploration on fire area of coalfield. The practice has proved that IR imaging detecting technique can be used to preventing and controlling working of hidden fire of coal seam.
