Research On Design Idea Of Modern Chinese-style Furniture

The traditional Chinese-style furniture was ever the most refulgent and brilliant culture in the world. But after entering into the modern history, with the impact of the western culture, the traditional Chinese-style furniture lost its position gradually, and showed cultural fault on the style. The Chinese furniture market is full of the western style furniture at present. The domestic furniture enterprises imitate the successful design works of abroad blindly, and lose the feature of national furniture culture. We have to create and design the modern Chinese-style furniture with our own culture feature in order to occupy a certain space on the world furniture stage. And the essence of the product innovation is the innovation of the design idea.In this paper, the author first analyzed traditional Chinese-style furniture from the aspects of the traditional Chinese culture which contained in the inner spirit and the characteristics in the structure and styling. The essence of the traditional Chinese-style furniture should be the soul inherited from the Chinese furniture culture, and the inspiration source of the modern Chinese-style furniture design. Then, the author introspected the cultural fault of Chinese–style furniture in modern history and analyzed causes; introspected the bottleneck in the development of Chinese furniture and explored the sustainable development path, which is to establish the furniture style of our own culture—modern Chinese-style furniture. And then, the author did research on the contemporary users, analyzed their demand of living environment and consumption concept. The innovation of modern Chinese-style furniture must be user-centered. Based on these studies, the author put forward definition of the modern Chinese-style furniture and the design idea for it, and finally tested the design idea through two design cases.Conclusively, the innovation of the design idea of the modern Chinese-style furniture must be rooted in the Chinese traditional culture. We have to connect the cultural fault of traditional Chinese-style furniture, inherit and develop the essence of the traditional Chinese-style furniture culture, and focus on the demands of contemporary users.
