In recent years, organic templated sulfates have received great attentions as a result of structural diversity and potential applications in the fields of catalysis, adsorption, magnetism and luminescence. In this work, fifteen new sulfates have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions: seven new lanthanide (La, Sm, Eu, Dy) sulfates templated by ethylenediamine (en), diethylenetriamine (DETA) and piperazine have been synthesized, which show the 1D beeline-chains, 2D layered and 3D porous structures; Four new transition-metal (Fe, Co, Ni) sulfates templated by ethylenediamine and piperazine which show discrete and 2D layered structure have been synthesized; Other four no-organic template sulfates have been synthesized. All the compounds have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, IR spectrum, TG, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and fluorescence analysis.(1) The compound [C4N3H16][La(SO4)3(H2O)] (1) has been successfully prepared using diethylenetriamine (DETA) as the template under solvothermal conditions; The compounds [Eu(SO4)3(H2O)][C2N2H10]1.5·2H2O (2), [Sm(SO4)3(H2O)][C2N2H10]1.5·2H2O (3) and [Dy(SO4)F2][C2N2H10]0.5 (4) have been synthesized by using en as the template; The compounds [Eu2(SO4)5(H2O)2][C4N2H12]2 (5) and [Sm2(SO4)5(H2O)2][C4N2H12]2 (6) have been synthesized by using piperazine as the template. The compound La3(SO4)3F2(C2O4)0.5(H2O)5 (7) has been synthesized by using oxalic acid as the template. The single crystal X-ray diffraction strucural analysis show that compound (1) templated by en represented the 1D beeline-chain, while compounds (2), (3) and (4) are 2D layered rare-earth sulfates templated by en. Compounds (5) and (6) show the 3D porous structures templated by piperazine. The oxalic acids in compound (7) are coordinated with lanthanum atoms in the 3D open-framework. The hydrogen bonding between the inorganic framework and the organic template in compounds (1)-(6) makes the structures more stable.(2) The compounds Sm(SO4)F(H2O) (8), Eu(SO4)F(H2O) (9), Dy(SO4)F(H2O) (10) and Sm(SO4)(OH) (11) have been synthesized by solvothermal conditions, and compounds (8)-(10) contain the same structures.(3) Four new transition-metal (Fe, Co and Ni) sulfates Fe(H2O)6·(SO4)·(C4N2H10) (12), [Co3Zn(H2O)(OH)6(SO4)]·3H2O (13), [Co(SO4)F(H2O)][C2N2H10]0.5 (14) and [Ni(SO4)F(H2O)][C2N2H10]0.5 (15) have been synthesized by solvothermal conditions. The compound (12) is an iron sulfate with discrete structure. The compound (13) is a new transition metal sulfate which contains Co-O layers that supported by the SO4 and ZnO4 tetrahedra. The layered compound (14) and (15) represent the same structure. Magnetic property investigation shows compounds (13)-(15) exhibit excellent ferromagnetic property.
