As an alien invasive species,Canadian golden rod has created a significant impact in the ecological environment in China.However,Canadian golden rod is a biodegradable,high fecundity natural plant,it is possible to use the golden rod to dye the textile as a natural dyeing and studies the dye extraction,dyeing process and a series of details.This paper studies the use of Canadian golden rod to provide a new way on elimination of the hazards and make a useful exploration of a rational use.Five methods,such as impregnation,boiling,ethanol impregnation,alkali extraction and boiling-ultrasonic method,was used to extract the yellow pigment.The best extraction method is boiling-ultrasonic method that determined by the absorbency at maximum absorption wavelength.The dye extracted from Canadian golden rod shows good heat-resistance and durable stability.The results also showed that the golden rod is an acid-resistant natural dyes by observed the color of the dye liquor under different pH.Canadian golden rod dye is a natural flavonoid dye,which may contain natural yellow 10 and natural yellow 13.In Canadian golden rod dye,the total phenol content is 59.50mg/g dye in 2008 and 63.36 mg/g dye in 2009 measured by UV spectrophotometry with gallic acid as reference substance.The total flavonoids contend is 130.80 mg/g dye in 2008 and 153.39 mg/g in 2009 measured by UV spectrophotometry with rutin as reference substance.The results showed that there is a little difference of the total phenol content and the total flavonoids contend in 2008 and 2009.The dyeing process of Canadian golden rod dye was investigated by pre-media, with media and after media,with alum,titanium sulfate,zinc sulfate,tannic acid,rare earth chloride,ferrous sulfate as mordant.The results showed that titanium sulfate is the best mordant in the investigated mordants and the best dyeing method is pre-media dyeing method.The influence of the concentration of titanium mordant and Canadian golden rod dye,pre-media time,pre-media temperature,dyeing time,dyeing temperature and the pH value were investigated by single factor experiments.The effect of dye concentration,dyeing time,dyeing temperature and the pH value on the dyeing performance were determined by orthogonal test.According the above experiments,an optimised process was found:the concentration of titanium sulfate is 6g/L,pre-media time is 30min,pre-media temperature is 70℃,the concentration of Canadian golden rod dye is 10g/L,dyeing time is 30 min,dyeing temperature is 95℃,the pH value is 4,bath ratio is 1:100.The K/S value is 2.482 with the best condition of the dyeing process in cotton.The washing fastness and the rubbing fastness of which are up to three,the light fastness is one by measured the cotton fabric which dyed in the best dyeing process.The process of the golden rod dyeing the cotton fabric was investigated by comparing the surface of cotton fiber,cotton fiber-titanium,cotton-titanium-dyeing with scanning electron microscope.
