With the rapid development of modern industry, the mechanical properties of the products have become increasingly demanding. There are many kinds of new materials. Some are hard and brittle non-conductive material or semi-conductive material. These materials have high hardness, high brittleness, high wear ability, high resistivity, high temperature resistance, and so on. Using the traditional mechanical method or special mechanical method is not processed. Diamond saw cutting is a method of cutting hard brittle material, which is rapid developed in recent years. However, this method has many shortcomings such as low processing efficiency, low surface quality and so on, and this method can not achieve surface machining. Therefore there are some limitations in practice.Consider of the characteristics of hard and brittle materials and the shortcomings of diamond saw cutting, this paper provides a new processing method—wire cutting. The wire cutting uses metal wire as a cutting tool, and allows relative movement of wire and the workpiece, then complete the cutting movement. The metal wire is coated with a layer of super-hard abrasive on surface.On the basis of wire cutting, this paper designs and develops a line cutting equipment. The work principle of this equipment likes the works of the WEDM. Firstly, the paper analyzes the overall structure of the machine, working principle, main technical parameters and the structure of the main motion system and feed system. Secondly, the paper detailed study of the composition and the function of the machine. It describes the structure of the four components, including the structure of the mechanical parts, working principle, design and selection of the parts.Through a series of experiment, the hard and brittle materials can be precise, narrow saw kerf processed by the wire cutting, and molding machine can be realized. In practice, the wire cutting process reveals a number of advantages:small processing damage surface, thin slices, high processing quality, etc. This equipment has simple structure, high-speed operation, and can be used for molding. It plays an important practical significance for the development of the hard and brittle materials.
