In recent years, with the increasing concern of occupational safety, more and more people pay attention on protective function, which leads to the rapid development of function clothing. In order to alleviate the harm of the impact to human body, mechanical protective clothing plays an important role in the military field, public security departments and the machinery processing industry. The development of mechanical protective clothing should be based on the scientific researches. The impact properties of mechanical protective fabrics are studied by both theoretical and experimental methods in this project. The general mechanical performance requirements of protective clothing are discussed in this paper. The impact properties of fabrics are the most important properties of mechanical protective clothing. According to the impact resistance principle of clothing, the influences of fibers, yarns and fabrics to the impact properties of clothing are discussed.During the impact process of mechanical protective clothing, the mechanical behavior of yarns and fabrics are researched, the mechanical modeling of yarns and fabrics resisting impact is proposed to describe the mechanical behavior of fabrics under impact. With the mechanical parameters of yarns from INSTRON tensile test, the properties of fabrics are achieved by calculating the modeling. Compared to the results of the real impact experiments, the mechanical modeling of fabrics under impact is reliable. In order to realize the visual expression of impact properties of mechanical protective fabrics, the finite-element simulation method is used in this paper. A finite-element modeling of fabric built with the element of SHELL 63 which can reflect the mechiancal properties of materials on impact condition, is used to express the fabrics' behavior during the impact process. The results of finite-element simulation consistent well with the data of the real impact experiments.Based on the impact-resistant standard, the protective performance testing device of fabrics is designed to research the impact performance of fabrics in virtual instrument integration environment. According to the theory of energy balance, the kinetic curves changing with time are achieved by processing experimental data, which is obtained by the photoelectric tachometer, to simulate the impact properties of fabrics.Research results provide a reliable theory and an experimental method to assess impact properties of mechanical protective fabrics, and purchase a certain choice guidance for the design, development and manufacture of function clothing.
