As an excellent luminescent material, rare earth complexes can be used as biochemical probes. But because animal body is mediated by water, molecular used as probe must be solvable. So we synthesized a phenanthroline derivative which contains a ethylene ether and aldehyde as hydrophilic function group which can form hydrogene bond with water and enhance the solvability. The ligand also have biggerπ-πconjugate system and rigid planar structure which facilitate the electronic transfer and energy delivery. We subsequently fabricated the corresponding europium complex to study their optical properties and solubility. The results show that the complex given the complex characteristics of red europium ions, their solubility in water has also been improved to some extent, luminous intensity, also have improved this for us to further synthesis of new water-soluble, more sensitive capabilities provide a basis for the ligand. In addition, to study the optical properties of nanometer scale rare earth complexes, we first used the chemical precipitation for the synthesis of different size and morphology of the nano-sized rare earth complexes Eu(TTA)3TPPO, and the composition of this complex, thermal stability and optical properties were characterized; With the help of a suitable organic solvent the complex and low-density polyethylene formed transparent polymer film; Optical properties of the composite was study in detail.
