Cutting head is the most critical components of the Roadheader, its design will affect the machine's performance. The cutting head has a number of design parameters, and its design freedom is large.Using the parametric approach to design is an effective way to improve design efficiency.This article first establishes a parameter theory of pick arrangement parameterization, which was used as the core and starting point to realize the pick arrangement parameterization and the softwares of cutting pattern and cutting load which are the appraisal tool by the means of programming.Then, the virtual assembly of pick and pick holder software module, parametric design of pick and pick holder software module,the adjustment of pick position software module and parametric design of the body of cutting head software module, whose target is to get the best outline of the body,are developed by secondary development technique.Then the parametric design system of cutting head forms.The design system can be ordered to complete the following tasks: pick arrangement parametric design, virtual assembly of the pick and pick holder, adjustment of pick position, parametric design of pick and pick holder, parametric design of the body of cutting head.It accommodates design and changes in one,which can work out good performance cutting head by continuously improved and modified.
