With the social development and economic progress, urban river environment faces increasing pressure. Industrial wastewater and sewage are discharged into urban river, not only leading increasingly serious water pollution in city, but also causing damage to the natural environment, what's worse, affecting the appearance of the city and the people's living environment. Therefore, characteristics analysis and comprehensive governance patterns of urban water pollution in rivers, have become more and more urgent tasks.Firstly, according to the monitoring data of the four major rivers in Tianhe District by the environmental monitoring station, the main pollutant's concentrations and pollution characteristics was analyzed. The quality of water in river was evaluated by the fuzzy evaluation method, and the main pollutant fators were analyzed by the sharing rate of the pollutants. Then, the pollution sources of the rivers were investigated and analyzed. On this basis, combined with the river pollution in Tianhe District, the river's pollution control and management models were discussed. Finally, the examples of comprehensive improvement project of the rivers in Tianhe District were introduced. The main results were as follows:(1) The water quality of Dongpu River, Jubei River, tangxia River and Liede River in Tianhe District was worse than grade v by evaluatiing of fuzzy evaluation method. The sharing rate of total nitrogen was 30.0%, ammonia nitrogen was 22.4%, and total phosphorus was 11.1%, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, anionic surfactant and oil were 9.2%,7.0%,8.0%,8.2%, 3.2% respetively. So the whole nitrogen is the main pollutant in this area in 2009.(2)Through investigating and analyzing the COD pollution sources of the Rivers in Tianhe District, the domestic wastewater are the main source of pollution, of which the contribution rate of COD reached 83.15%, and the tertiary industry accounted for 15.72%, industrial waste accounted for 1.13%. The quantity of COD produced as follows, Liede River (already interception)> Sha River (mainstream interception)> tangxia River>Chebei River>Shen River>Yuancun River>Chengjie River> Tancun River>Wu River.(3)For the pollution satus of the river in Tianhe District, the remediation and management model were dicussed. The first important step was intercepting, and wastewater collection system should be built and it transported wastewater to treatment plants. Next pollutant in water and sediment were treated and disposaled. And the further ecological restoration was need. This was not the end of the creek's governance, in order to maintain and improve the results of the creek remediation, the monitoring and management is necessary following the remediation.(4) The renovation of some rivers in Tianhe District has been carried out, the sewage colletion system network and some pollution cutting projects have been constructed. As for this, the water quality of rivers has improved significantly, the landscape of some rivers have also been constructed. However, the functionality and the principles of ecology only were reflected in the river's remediation, while the hydrophilic and the principle of continuity were not appeared. So it needs strengthening the management and upgrading remediation for the rivers in the future.
