Mechanical products assembly is a very complex decision-making process with implementing assembly operations by using various of assembly information comprehensively. In order to improve the efficiency and reduce humans' burden in the process of Virtual Assembly, Intelligent Assembly has been a key point in the current digital design. In the assembly planning process, the specific information required by assembly operations is closely related to the operation of the assembly tasks. To improve the efficiency of information pushing, it is very important that pushing different information at different stages according to the different assembly tasks and focusing on more details information to important situational elements. So, the analysis and awareness of assembly tasks granularity is necessary. Main research work and achievements can be summarized as follows:1.The virtual assembly technology applications in the assembly area was introduced, and the current common assembly information model were summarize.Then the deficiencies of the current information model was pointed out, finally, the mind of assembly task based granularity awareness was proposed.2. The information needed in the assembly process and the demands of assembly process model were summarize by analyzing the characteristics of virtual assembly process. Then, the assembly process model based on assembly tasks was built, and the definition of assembly task and assembly operation and relationship between each other were given by describing them. 3. The relationships between geometric features, assembly features, and feature semantic were shown. On this basis, the feature semantic was linked to assembly task by mapping feature semantics to assembly operation.4. Describe Quotient space granularity theory and mathematical model, proposed assemblers Quotient space with assembly hierarchical model, and analyze the structure of the hierarchical model and divided the parts in it.and the concept of assembly task granularity and the method of making the granularity coarser or smaller. A model for the assembly of information granularity was also established. Finally, the information expressed by the hierarchical model and the connection model was unified by Quotient space granularity theory with a algorithm based on assembly task granularity awareness proposed.5. The 3D-VRASM virtual assembly system was developed independently by our own laboratory to prove the algorithm proposed in this paper practicality and feasibility of the method.
