In this paper, under the condition of realizing the current situation in the aspect of research, development and machining for the steel strands anchors of a company in our country, the deficiencies of the large pitch screw lock anchor processing for the steel strands anchors were analyzed, the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool was researched and developed, the importance and necessity to lead into virtual manufacturing technology in the process of designing the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool was introduced. The design procedure of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool was set up based on virtual manufacturing technology, the digitalize solid model of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool was built based on computer graphics software, the mathematic model of simulation analysis which used to replace the performance testing and design quality for the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool were evaluated based on computer analysis software. It is shown that the design is feasible. Based on the results from finite element analysis of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool, the mathematic model was revised and the structure was improved and optimized so as to bring some benefits which include improvement of product quality, compression of development cycle, decrement of test cost and so on for the machine tool. Virtual manufacturing technology was used in designing of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool,which can supply a effective reference for the development of other machine tools. The main content of the research in this paper includes some aspects as follows: First, the motion distribution between tools and workpieces was compared, the motion way of the trapezoidal thread processing machine was determined and the overall program for the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool was designed. Based on the modeling function of UG software and the parametric modeling method, the digitalize model and assembly model for the parts of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool were built after finishing the initial design. The solid model can express the design objective and parts process more effectively than the engineering diagram, the modeling process for the assembly model can reflect the responsibility of planning process for the assembly sequence, and the process and results of assembly can show the responsibility and correctness of the design for the parts as well. Second, by using of the motion module of UG software for the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool, the motion simulation model was built, the motion performance of the transmission system was simulated, and the correctness and responsibility of the design were confirmed by using of interference detection technology as well. Third, based on the finite element analysis function of UG software, the vibration characteristics of the headstock and micro-deformation of clamping mechanism was obtained after analyzing the dynamics characteristics of the headstock and static stiffness of the clamping mechanism for the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool. The results shown that the structure of the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool is responsible. Fourth, some assignments for the bridge cable anchorage large diameter thread machine tool were done in the aspect of analyzing precision requirement, defining the direction of X and Z axis, selecting the spindle motor and configuring and designing devices and servo system.
