With the growing of global steel products consumption, scrap steel resources increases every year, the requirements of recycling become increasingly urgent.But due to the current level of technology, the utilization of scrap is low in China .So it produced large amounts of waste In order to achieve sustainable development of the steel industry, the technology level of recycling must be innovated.The main smelting object of electric arc furnace is the scrap, and the power is the three-phase AC .Using the high temperature produced by the current to heat and melt raw materials. However, Because of the strong coupling among the three-phase electrodes, electric arc furnace system has a character of nonlinear and dynamicity, it increased the difficulty of the electrode control system.In the past, we simply separated three-phase electrode and controled with the traditional PID algorithm, but the achieved effect is not ideal.In this paper, we introduced the technology of electric arc furnace and the development of the process control methods by searching a large number of the relevant literature. For the non-linear arc, we used the theory of piecewise linear to establish the accurate mathematical model. Based on grasped the principle of the electrode control system, we established the mathematical model for electrode control system.To meet the requirements of the control system of electric arc furnace steelmaking, the paper deeply discussed the choice of control strategies and the design of the controller of electrode. According to intelligent control theory and the complex control algorithms, we proposed the composite intelligent control scheme for electrode control based on optimal control, fuzzy control and PID control,and based on the scheme we designed the automatic control system of the electrode regulator with Siemens S7-400 PLC, including hardware and software configuration procedures for the preparation and network configuration.Simulation results show that the rise time of the control system is up to 0.708s and the overshoot is less than 50%, the stability effect which intelligent control scheme achieved is also excellent than that of traditional PID control,so the control system has good prospect.
