Modular design is an important method for mechanical product. In modern design and manufacturing, it is emphasized to fast respond to market demand, and to share the design information in corporation even form industry federation. That makes modern design and manufacturing system must have perfect functions of information processing and data management. Based on the modular design for modern machinery products, the principles and methods of computer aided modular design, in which excellent design and optimization function, powerful information processing and data management function are fully used, is researched in detail. For enterprises, the research is fundamental to green manufacturing, competitiveness and sustainable development. In this paper the main aspects are as follows:From market demand information, the product family design platform for gleason spiral bevel gear is established. And the product family is formulated. Based on the layout planning of product family, various types of product function modules are disassembled, and the module structures and module interfaces are established completely.The static and dynamic performances of the module structures are analyzed with relevant theory. By experiment the performances are proved out, and it makes the modality diagram, the transfer function diagram, the frequency spectrum graph, etc. And then, this paper analyzes the characteristic of module structure's optimization and makes effective optimized scheme for weak parts of the machine.Standards and data base for the module codes are established, which simplify the module information management. Using modules assembling theory, product family modules are fast assembled. By the method of fuzzy recognition, the theory and the algorithm for module information management are implemented. The product family design platform provides the prerequisite for mass customization production.
