Liner rolling guide has been widely used in CNC machine tools as a kind of rolling component. With the cometh of the Industrial 4.0 era, high-end manufacturing technology puts forward higher requirements on the performance of NC machine tools. This research project focuses mainly on the selection method for linear rolling guides, performance evaluation standards and selection tool software development. This paper firstly studied traditional lectotype methods in order to determine the lectotype process which will be followed in the project, setting advantages against disadvantages. Based on this process, functional frameworks could be built for later tool development.Secondly, in view of the defects of the existing load calculation method, a generalized model of linear rolling guide system was built and an optimized load distribution arithmetic was proposed subsequently; examples were given for verification. This arithmetic would be the foundation of the core calculation module in tool development.Rotational stiffness and maximum static torque were then analyzed and corresponding tests were carried out so as to determine two performance indexes for linear rooling guides. Along with the volume index, these three indexes will allow engineers to have further understanding of comprehensive performances of linear guides.Based on the study above, a lectotype tool was developed, including pre-project investigation, framework building, functional chunk scheme design, database building and core calculation module development. Finally, two engineering project cases were given, illustrating the adaptability and the practicability of the tool.
