Study On The Sustainable Development Evaluation Of Henan Province Based On Ecological Footprint Model

With scientific and technological progress and the swift development of economy, the ability and the scale that the human intervene in the nature increase at a surprising rate. Unprecedented wealth is obtained, but ecological environment is destroyed day by day. So regional sustainable development has become the important and hot problem in current international and civil research. Henan province lies at conjoint region of coastal opening area and central and western regions, and is also intermediate zone that China's economy develops by echelon from east to west. So the problem of the social economic sustainable development ability has caused the extensive concern. In this paper, ecological footprint of Henan is calculated in space and time from 2000 to 2007 with ecological footprint analysis method. This paper also analyzes dynamic change trend and main affecting factors of ecological footprint in Henan.Results show that Henan province is in a unsustainable development situation. The ecological footprint of 18 cities are calculated in Henan, and the differences among them are analyzed. The ecological surplus (ecological deficit) and pressure index are introduced in order to judge the sustainable development degree of 18 cities. On this basis, this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasure and measures for future development of Henan Province, and presents the improvement methods and measures for application of ecological footprint method in regional sustainable development evaluation.The main results of the paper are as follows:The ecological deficit per capita of Henan displayed an increasing trend during 2000-2007. In 2007, it reached 2.1325hm2.The ecological footprint per 10000 yuan GDP showed a decreasing tendency year by year, indicated that economy of Henan province was increasing in yearly and the technology was always making progress continually. But speed of economic growth and technical progress was slow in growth rate of ecological footprint and the population. Ecological tension indexes presented waving and rising trend from 3.0875 in 2000 to 5.2052 in 2007, net growth was 2.117. It shows that ecological environment was destroyed seriously in Henan province. There appeared ecological deficit in each region of Henan province. And there were significant difference among each region., of which Jiyuan city was in serious unsafety state with amaximum ecological deficit, while Kaifeng city in relative safety with minimum ecological deficit. Pingdingshan city had the amaximum ecological footprint per 10000 yuan GDP 2.9234hm2, while Zhengzhou city with the minimum ecological footprint per 10000 yuan GDP 0.7411hm2. Pingdingshan city was in serious unsafety state ofâ…£grade with the amaximum ecological tension index, while Kaifeng city in unsafety state ofâ…¢grade with the minimum ecological tension index.
