Medium voltage distribution network is a renovation by upgrading voltage level to adapt to China's economic development, construction and environment-friendly, resource-saving power of strategic decisions. Medium voltage level can improve the power supply ability of distribution network, save the area of resources, energy loss reduction and easy to access distributed power supply. Renovation by upgrading voltage level is a major technology to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance the power of adaptability, to construct a strong distribution network. China's current urban and rural power grid commonly is making up of 220/110/35/10/0.4kV voltage level, and 10kV voltage level is the nexus of the intermediate links. As China's rapid economic development, the load density and maximum power consumption growth, on the one hand the existing 10kV power supply voltage can no longer meet the needs of development capacity, must boost reform. It has basically reached a consensus. On the other hand, excessive levels of substation and layout of complex structures lead to excessive voltage level duplication, increase capital investment and network loss, and not conducive to management and maintenance. Therefore, the study simplified substation level and make appropriate distribution voltage level is important practical significance. Therefore to upgrading voltage level of distribution networks in Zhengzhou city, with how 20kV voltage level instead of 10kV voltage level are our current network operating companies focus topics.The author has carried out analysis on current situation and the problems existed in lOkV voltage level distribution networks. The main problems to be considered while the 20kV voltage level is adopted for power supply in distribution network are analyzed, they are scarcity of urban space resources, change of power utilization structure, developing mode of distribution network, existing devices and asset, technical measures for distribution network renovation by upgrading voltage grade, security level of power supply, social benefit, economic benefit and policy of power supply and so on, to prove the technical feasibility and economic advantages of 20kV Medium voltage distribution network. Finally, taking distribution network in Eastern District of Zhengzhou for an example, analyzed necessity and feasibility of adopting the 20kV voltage level for distribution network in Zhengzhou.
