Ship self-propulsion model test is an important way to analyze and study the different components of thrust efficiency. The purpose is to determine the performance of ship model under the propeller working, which can be used to check the coordination of hull, main engine and propellers. On the basis of conventional ship self-propulsion test, remote control and measurement can be conducted by assembling wireless remote control system and wireless remote measuring data-collecting system, by which remote experimental testing work may be operated in a broad natural water area. The aim of this subject is to provide test methods and measure methods for the large-scaled model test in the real marine environment.By reforming equipments of towing tank, and introducing a new controlling program of DC motor, the ship model can be purely self-propelled. In the pure self-propulsion test, researchers can send orders through the interface of machines on-land to the microcontroller of the controlling system in the ship model. Then the microcontroller could control the DC motor to drive the propellers. The rotational speed and torque are collected by the optical encoder, and then the data are radioed to the machine on-land. The collected data are shown timely on the interface, and are stored for further research and analysis after then. The test procedures are simplified in this testing system, and at the same time, experiences for large-scaled model test in the real marine environment are accumulated. This experimental system also provides a platform for the under-graduates'test teaching because it is easily operated and can arouse enthusiasm of under-graduate students in the experiment and at last improve the competence of them. The designs and research work are as following:1. The overall design of remote control system of ship model was completed, including the design, manufacture, installation and debugging of hardware.2. The data collecting system of ship model was designed, which could guarantee the accuracy and reliability of the test data.3. A man-machine interface was developed, which was used to control the ship model and display the real-time.4. The self-propulsion model was tested with remote control and measurement system so as to inspect the working situation of the system and to analyze data.The results indicate that the self-propulsion model test system meets all the test requirements and reaches the expected goal.
