So far, the research about multi-hull ship is mainly focused on hydrodynamics, optimization of ship form, and main dimensions. There is little examined in depth research about the propulsion system of multi-hull ship. It is the highlight to design an economic, reliable, practical propulsion system for the new kind of ship in ship-building circle. The pentamaran is being designed by Chinese naval force. Now the designing goes into the stage of demonstration. The designed cruising velocity is XX kn, and fighting velocity (full velocity) is XX kn. Therefore , it is required that the propulsion system is economic, and has wide range of power , robust maneuverability. There are two main difficulties in designing the propulsion system. Firstly, the shape of two back side hulls is slender, so the cruising propulsion engine is hard to locate. Secondly, the draught of the two back side hulls is too shallow, so if the ship is required to reach cruising speed, the diameter of the screw propeller will be too long. This paper calculated the power of cruising engine and accelerating...
