With the development of shipping business of our country, the demands on the reliability of the ship, the main propulsion appliance in particular, are becoming higher and higher. Because the faults with the main engine will directly affect the schedule or the safety of property and live, the study of the reliability of the main propulsion is one of the hot spot of the shipping world.Marine main engine is the most important equipment, but it's also the fragile part in the view of the reliability. It is essential to analyze the reliability of main engine, because it is the precondition to improve the reliability of the main engine. In order to enhance the reliability, you have to analyze the possible faults. First, qualitatively confirm all reasons of equipment faults, and then quantitatively get the probability of faults occurrence to verify whether the probability of faults occurrence makes the need of the demand of the reliability. Fault tree analysis is the most important means of device reliability analysis. It especially suit for the fault evaluation of the complex system. It is concise, vivid and the exact and it offers qualitative and quantitative evaluation to faults. Through FT A we can know the equipment and its system thoroughly, and find out the weaknesses. Finally verify the faults occurrence to reliability demand. The text aims to enhance the reliability of main engine, study the common faults of main engine, and evaluate probability of faults, give management and maintenance personnel some reference.Computer assisted analysis of Fault Tree is also adapted, and based on it simulation are made to replace calculation. It is convenient and efficient. Finally Fuzzy Comprehensive Assessment is applied to analyze the reliability of main engine. More accurate conclusion can be get by synthesizing the two conclusion.
