Research And Development Of The JKR Instrument

The elastic material with adhesive surface has been widely used in biochemical, pharmaceutical, industrial chemicals and electromagnetic fields, such as bandages used in hospitals, sticky tape in daily life, particularly the rubber material which has long been applied in various industries, for example automobile tires. So the research of adhesive materials in internal organization and mechanical properties will promote the applying of adhesive materials in engineering. JKR theory is a milestone in the research of adhesive materials and the experimentation from which the theory derived become an important method to study the interfacial adhesion properties of adhesive materials. In this paper, basing on the JKR experimentation, we have developed a new intelligent instrument, using the knowledge and standards of instrument development, to measure the adhesion energy W and the energy release rate G of the adhesive material indirectly.In the paper, we first discuss the background of the JKR instrument and make a systematic summary of the development processs of intelligent instruments.After that, on the mathematical basis of the JKR theory and experimental procedure we design the mechanical structure and measurement process of the JKR instrument, according to the general rule of system design. In this step we also determine the solutions of subsystem, such as control system, measuring system and linear driving system, according to the needs and specificaton of JKR instrument designing. As to the realization of JKR instrument, that involves the knowledge of sensors, analog-digital conversion, software and hardware filtering, motor drive, embedded systems, mechatronics, anti-interference technology, computer interface, software engineering etc. Especially the design of intelligent pulse generator, basing on the embeded system ARM920T, not only can be used in the JKR instrument for personal computer to control the stepmotor, it can also be widly applied in other area where they need peronal computer to control the stepmotor.
