Chinese Railways is still in its infancy and growing phase. Chinese Railways not only plays an important part in overall traffic and transportation, but also holds a key status in the economic progress and social development in China. On one hand, China faces a number of potential inefficiencies in environment governance, energy sources and population pressures. On the other hand, vehicle interiors are such an important connection linking passengers with vehicles. Consequently, humans are the center of concern in railway interior design. This dissertation addresses the role of interior design of railway vehicle. Our central aim is to inquire into passenger needs and how the need of our passengers will affect car interior design. The main points of the dissertation are as follows:In Partâ… , we analyze and explain the needs of passengers using a content-based pyramid model. And then, we also explore the reasons for passenger dissatisfaction and rank train interiors importance measures, based on literatures from abroad and the final statistical results of a self-designed investigation questionnaire. The main point of Part II is layout design of railway interiors. In this chapter, we give examples-ICE series for explaining characters of interior layout design by train generations. The third part is influence of railway interiors on dwell time, punctuality and accessibility. This part is divided into four aspects:entrance, luggage, aisle and corridor width and seat arrangements. In Partâ…£, we investigate passenger seat design based on industrial engineering and ergonomics. Furthermore, the two approaches provided in section 5.5 to perfect reclining seat for utilizing recline feature in high density rail cars.Part V is related to interdisciplinary aspects about People-Color-Space. And we investigate two key visual parameters, the use of light and material. Finally, Two color schemes are evaluated using the form of collages.
