The design process of belt conveyor consists of two stages, namely Model selection and Drawing. Accurate and rapid calculation is vital in the model selection stage and a lot of repetitive work is required in the drawing stage. As a result, the whole design process is very time-consuming and open to error. Therefore, by the introduction of parametric drawing idea, with the help of VB language, to develop a software program to assume the work of Model selection and Drawing is a creative way to solve the problem.After a number of technical innovations of Belt Conveyor, DTâ…¡(A) Belt Conveyor is widely used currently because of its strong adaptability, wide range of application, comprehensive models and other advantages.Based on the DTâ…¡(A) type Belt Conveyor Design Manual, this paper aims to provide technical database and develop a parametric drawing software program for belt conveyor. The software program consists of model selection, database and drawing.The calculation and model selection section is the foundation of the general layout drawing. Because of the advantages of VB language, the calculation and model selection adopts window based user interface on VB language, which function by human-computer interaction. Because the calculation and model selection section is developed on the basis of previous research, this article only briefly introduces the operational steps and improvements. Database provides data support for model selection and graphic drawings. Except the initial data input stage, this software will automatically call data from database all along the running process. In the parametric drawing stage, the size of various parts, the relative installation positions etc. are derived from the database. In addition, Access Software, as the build in software of Windows System, is popular used because of its simple call and easy operation.To create live drawings with live dimension is the guiding concept of this article. In other similar software, only fixed drawings with live dimension can be achieved, which means the drawings will not change according to modified dimension or different model selection. In the development of this software, the designer successfully resolve the problem of smooth connection among line segment, convex curved section and concave curved section in the belt conveyor drawing, which can directly reflect the intention of designer.The modular concept is adopted in this parametric drawing software, which make it easy to call and put together variety of modules. The components of belt conveyor are classified and drafted into different modules, which can be easily put together. After model selection, various related modules could be called and put together, which can create 30 commonly used general layouts that listed in the book.Finally, the VB language based AutoCAD parametric drawing system is achieved by using developed software program. The system will create drawings of more than 30 working conditions inclusive of straight line segment, convex arcs, concave, etc. the graphic elements, diagram, dimensions, title block, bar technical characteristics, technical requirements and other basic elements of drawing are also included in the final drawings.By testing, the results proved that the DTâ…¡(A) type Belt Conveyor parametric drawing system is successful and reliable, which could meet the needs of general application.
