In the power transmission and distribution, the Ultra High Voltage(UHV) transmission is the future trends and the inevitable choice, and frequency over voltage of UHV transmission line and voltage fluctuations are an important control target, which must be inhibited. Existing traditional domestic reactor compensation device can not be very good to inhibit frequency over-voltage and voltage fluctuations. So the new magnetron reactive power compensation reactor is a device for power systems in China urgently needed to resolve important issues.This paper introduces the basic magnetic structure of the MCR to analyze the working principle and derive the electromagnetic equations and equivalent circuit model of MCR. On this basis.using Matlab/Simulink software to establish the simulation model of MCR to analyze the V-I feature, harmonic characteristics, control characteristics and response speed characteristics. It lays a good foundation for the later application research of the MCR.Secondly, in the Ultra High Voltage transmission line over-voltage frequency on the basis of theoretical analysis, a long UHV transmission line of the demonstration project uses the four paragraphs chain circuit model with Matlab/Simulink model, and the previously established MCR model into the UHV transmission line model of the first end, the end of its two ends to analyze the frequency over-voltage suppression. The results indicate that MCR has significant inhibition against UHV of the power transmission long line in various conditions, but line with MCR at two ends is better than line with MCR at last end to treat the UHV.Finally, using the electric arc furnace for steel caused by voltage fluctuation and flicker magnetron reactor with its inhibitory effect is analyzed by simulation. Simulation model of arc is established with Matlab/Simulink, and simulation model of arc power system is established to analyze voltage fluctuation. Then the model of MCR is put into the model of arc power system to analyze. The results show that the MCR can achieve good results in the inhibition of high voltage transmission line over-voltage and UHV voltage fluctuations and flicker.
