The paper describes the development of SVC technology at home and abroad, the advantages and problems of reactive power compensation, and also points out the development direction of SVC technology. Some problems in coal mine power supply system, such as voltage fluctuation, power quality deterioration, power factor reduction, and so on are discussed, which are bring out by the short-term re-copy workloads. By Comparing the structures, principles and characteristics of three types of static dynamic reactive power compensator facility and combining with the features of electric power load in the coal industry, the thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) was selected for the scheme of the static dynamic reactive power compensation. Through calculation of the reactive power compensation device, the reactive power compensation capacity was determined, filter was chose, and a system simulation was done.By setting the hardware system of SVC device, a full digital control of the system can be achieved. The BOD and other key components in the protection system can work effectively to ensure system secure and stable. The application of Heat Pipe technology can solves both the cooling problem of SVC device and truly maintenance-free operation of the system. After the installation of hardware system and the commissioning of software system of SVC, the device was put into operation. The test results of the power quality of power supply system shows that the power system meet the national standard.SVC device can effectively solve problems in coal supply system, it is important for power system security, stability, and efficient operation, and it also creates higher economic benefit for the Enterprise, provides very good security guarantee for the higher-level power grid. The successful application of SVC device in coal mine power supply system also provides a good reference to the transformation of other similar power supply system.
