| At the end of 2009, China has reached 3.86 million km mileage that is 4.3 times than that in 1978; since the highway mileage come into beings, it has reached 65,000 kilometers, which narrow the gap rapidly compared to USA; highway mileage above level tow has reached more than 424,000 km which is 35.3 times than that in 1978; senior and second senior pavement rate reach by 58.3%, the mileage of rural roads is up to 3.336 million kilometers. Along with the rapid developmet of highway construction, the increasing density of road network. The improvement in road repair and maintenance and technical levels will become very prominent in the following few years.Nowadays, based on current rules of China, road renovation and expansion project belongs to road maintenance and management by work nature. One of road maintenance guidelines is to combine improvement with popularization and improvement first. In addition, the guideline puts road maintenance and technique's reconstruction at the first place in the work of road's maintenance and management. Therefore, renovation and expansion of original road is an important part of the maintenance and management of road. In the road renovation and expansion project, inspection and evaluation of current road status is a key factor which affects the result of the renovation and expansion project.Combining detailed project example, this paper discusses the project profile, inspection and evaluation of road project, structure of old bridges and culverts and general appraisal of old road utilization based on a large amount of historical materials, experiment date and photos. In addition, this paper proposes plans on utilization and treatment of old road.
