The residential district is an integral and essential component of urban functions, and thesuccess or failure of residential district planning has a direct bearing on the future of urban. Wehave tried many existing residential modes and made many detours since the founding of P.R.C.The current urban residential district planning in China is facing a wide range of complex issues,one of the social problems is neighbourhood recession, including the vitiation of neighbourhoodspace, the weaken of a sense of belonging in the community and the negative of neighbourhoodrelationship, and so on.How to provide an effective neighbourhood strategy in urban residential district planning isnot only a historic topic but also a urgent problem today. The revival or reconstruction ofneighbourhood is no longer a monodrama/one-man play of planners, but a social movement. Inorder to explore an effective model of neighbourhood Space, this project has selected threespecific patterns of habitation: Beijing Siheyuan, Likeng Village and Community, and treatedtheir archetypes of neighbourhood space as study subjects. After the discussion of basicinvestigation study and the analysis of respective morphological features, this project proposedthe "Neighbourhood Space Archetype" concept and established respective neighbourhood spacearchetype. Finally, this project compared three proposed archetypes of neighbourhood space indetail by means of the comparative study method, in the hope of providing beneficial referenceand guide for the revival or reconstruction of current community neighbourhood.
