With the development of the economy and constant progress of science and technology, the people's demand for the structure space and span is higher and higher. The steel tubular truss is a typical spatial structure system, which has many good characteristics, such as high loading resistance, brief and smooth shape, simple node form, simple construction and economical, etc. All of these features above mentioned make the steel pipestructure be extensively applied in construction structure, especially in largespan space structure.The background of this paper is the subject "Steel truss stress-strain detection of Taiyuan station building roof" which is hosted by my tutor Pro.Lei Honggang. The finite element software MIDAS is applied to analyzing systematically the structure stress, deformation, the seismic performance and the stability problem of the project, the main work is as following:(1) Considering different load conditions combination, the static analysis of the steel roof structure was carried out. Through analysis, the internal force distribution and node displacement of the truss were obtained, which showed that the steel roof structure design was reasonable, and the project had certain security reserves; Temperature effect on the structure stress and displacement, which is one of the main control structure conditions was obvious.(2) Through calculating the steel roof structure dynamic characteristics and comparatively analyzing of the natural frequency and modal shapes, it was found that the vertical stiffness of the steel roof was relatively weak; A lot of models showed vibration coupling and the frequency spectrum was intensive. During seism design, more attention should be paid to the influence of high-order mode. (3) Using the response spectrum method and elastic time history analysis, the seismic performance under common earthquake was carried out. Comparing the two kinds of analysis result, it was showed that response spectrum method could not be regarded as a kind of conservative safety design method for large-span steel truss roof seismic design and as replenished calculation, the elastic time history analysis was necessary.(4) Through analyzing eigenvalue buckling, it was found that the structure has a good overall stability, only that some local buckling.(5) Through analyzing and comparing the measured results with theoretical results, it was found that the actual bearing performance was accordant with theoretical simulation, but due to a variety of error factors, there were also some differences.Through analyzing static and dynamic performance and whole stability of Taiyuan south railway station steel roof system, design essentials and problems on calculation and analysis were introduced in such space steel truss structure in this paper. It was a beneficial attempt on space steel truss structure design and calculation.
