In recent years, the high speed development of our country's auto industry makes great contributions to the national economy and social development. Meanwhile, a series of problems have been generated, such as traffic jams, air pollution, energy crisis, safety accidents and so on. At present, the car ownership of China is dramatically increasing, which shows the characteristics of the density flow and the non-professional of the driver in the road traffic, especially in urban traffic. In the real traffic environment, the influence of a various of factors from the"driver-vehicle-environment"system in the driving process is very complicated, and the driving process is high-speed, dangerous and complex. Based on the above, it becomes a very effective technical means to apply the virtual realistic technology to the study of urban road traffic simulation, which can simulate different road environment, weather conditions easily, and analyse the car's technology performance indicator, therefore it saves a lot of natural resources with a high economic value.This thesis is about the study on the virtual reality technology combing the traffic flow simulation to realize the simulation of the vehicle driving behavior in the visual system based on the traffic flow characteristics of the real world ,which reflects the interference factors to the"safety and energy saving"driving in the real traffic environment. It provides a simulation environment for"safety and energy saving"driving study, besides , it can be used for the driver's"safety and energy saving"driving behavior training based on the platform。A simulation platform of complex urban traffic based on virtual reality is developed. The software and hardware platform of the system is constructed. Multigen Creator is selected for simulating traffic environment according to the demand of the system. In the modeling process, the principles that the construction and organization of the models should follow are presented. The constructing process of some models is briefly described , the problems of the modeling process in a real-time simulation are analyzed .A series of advanced technology is applied to the modeling process to achieve the vivid visual effects, to reduce the cost of system resources and to improve the system performance, such as LOD, Texture, Instance, External Reference and so on. Finally, after the scene database is established, OpenGVS is used to realize the real-time rendering and driving of the scene. The key technologies of developing simulation process is discussed such as cameras followed, collision detection and others. In the urban traffic simulation platform, it has applied in the modeling technologies and optimization methods discussed, realized the visual system, which gets a good effect for the simulation while meeting the immersing, real-time and interactivity demands of the system.
