Hydraulic excavator is a widely used, versatile, complex structure of the construction machinery. With the growing competition in the market, it is increasingly becoming the most challenging factor of the product development speed and reliability. Because of long development cycle of new products, high cost, backwardness design methods, it is lack of market competitiveness of china's traditional construction machinery industry. Author applied virtual reality technology into the development of the excavator's scene simulation system, in order to deal with design project directly, quickly , economically and efficiently, which has a significant utility value in the research development of excavator.This paper, on the object of excavator, established the excavator's scene simulation application system through model building, disucssed more deeply about the VR's application in the excavator industry, caused the excavator obtain a more comprehensive analysis and discussion.The work details are followed:1. Collect contexts about virtual reality (VR) and simulation technology, research the basic theory and design methods of VR, learn to grasp some related tools to realize simulation, including the operation and skills about MultiGen Creator and Vega Prime, which prepared for the system's realism.2. On the base of broad research and collection for the hydraulic excavator, get the excavator's main structure, process, work principle and scene layout, establish models by ProEngineer and simplify them by Creator, therefore build all models and enmronment.3.Established application system by utilizing Lynx Prime panel in Vega Prime, realized simple human machine action. On the platform of VC++, realized virtual simulation about the excavator's working scene by loading the function in the Vega Prime, resolved some related some key techonologies such as crash, degree of freedom ans so on.Through the research of virtual simulation for the excavator, this thesis established a completed application system. This system could show how the excavator worked, assist the designers to do researchment without suffering an environment full of dusty, therefore help designers fininsh the work directly, quickly, economicly and efficiently. More importantly, the system applied virtual reality technology into the excavator and give forward to a possible and scientific method for theexcavator industry in our country.
