There are many bridges in our country. Some of them are in poor condition because of poor condition as the result of the long-term traffic transportation. In order to keep the bridge in security status, the states of the bridges should be in hands. This assessment can contribute effectively the support for the maintenance and strengthening decision of the old bridge. Based on a practical engineering, Guangzhou Zhujiang Huangpu Bridge, this paper analyses the bearing capacity and finite element analyses for it based on the test. The main points are as follows.Guangzhou Zhujiang Huangpu Bridge is an important project across the Zhujiang River of the Guangzhou East Second Ring Expressway. According to its structural characteristics and requirements, we have three aspects of the testing. Including initial state investigation of the structure, static load test and load test. To understand the working condition by actual loading, stress characteristics, testing the carrying capacity; and analyze the bridge structural performance under design load. Get the geometric parameters and dynamic performance of the brige.Collecte the initial information of the brige to build the bridge files, provide base data for the final acceptance and reference materials for the disease detection and management at bridge operation stage. Accumulated of basic technical information for explore the design and construction of the suspension bridge, and development the bridge theory.In the load test, we should first determine the apparent disease, geometric linear and internal force of bridge structure by the initial state detection, to provide reference for the later capacity analysis. In order to test its performance and carrying capacity, the main subject is imposed the equivalent load close to the design load, measure the actual deformation and internal force, which will be compared with the designed values, and analysis of the actual working state of the bridge, structural strength and stiffness consistent with the design.Along with development of computer technology, the finite element method become more and more maturity, produced a large number of good finite element analysis software. This article use MIDAS software to do the finite element modeling analysis of the research projects. Finally, based on the compared with the actual test data and the result of finite element analysis, this paper assesses the bearing capacity of the bridge. It shows that the building of the finite element analysis model is reasonable, the analysis method is corrected. It can be used to direct loading test , it can make up the limits of the field loading test. It can be evaluate the bridge scientifically. The results in the paper is useful for reference to the bridge strenthened.
