Mixed traffic is the main characteristic of urban traffic in China. Mixed traffic refers to the situations in which motorized, non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians share the same carriageway in time and space. There are three sub-categories:the mixed traffic flow with various vehicle types; the mixed motorized and non-motorized vehicle traffic flow; and the traffic of pedestrians along with motorized, non-motorized vehicles. The conflict between road users, especially the conflict between motorized and non-motorized vehicles, is the major cause of urban traffic jams and traffic accidents. In China, right-turning vehicles are out of signal's control at most intersection. There are many conflicts between right-turning vehicles and bicycles, which have great influences on the safety and efficiency of the intersection.This paper analyzes various operation characteristics of bicycle flow, including psychological characteristic between male and female, youths and elderly cyclists; travel characteristics about distance, age, purpose and time; driving characteristics about sight distance, speed, deceleration, acceleration and driving route; bicycle flow characteristics about density and expansive; study on the arrival and release of bicycle at signal intersection.This paper summarizes existing models and methods of intersection safety evaluation, including accident rate model, experience model, comprehensive influence coefficient model, quality control model and dynamic gravity model; analyzes traffic conflict technique; on the base of principles of photography studies the points of conflict area between right-turning vehicles and bicycles and make it principle of intersection safety evaluation; then analyzes signalized intersection safety evaluation model and regard the conflicts between right-turning vehicles and bicycles at four-phase signalized intersection.Finally, this paper applies vehicle-bicycle conflict theories to solve typical signalized intersection, including advanced stop line of bicycle, channelization and right-turning vehicle phase; using VIS SIM simulates and analysis Nong-wei intersection.
