The connection of distributed power generation systems (DG), such as small hydropower, wind power, will have a great impact on the structure and operation of a distribution system. Because the DG are random, impacted on the season and climate, and the structure of the distribution system will not be radial form. The power flow will be changed, which will cause the voltage fluctuation. In response,the conventional voltage control method can not meet the demands, so the thyristor voltage regulator(TVR) is introduced in this paper. The control strategy of the TVR is researched to achieve the DG system voltage regulation.Based on the research and design the main structure of the TVR, the technical parameters of the TVR transformer is determined and the voltage range and TVR controller algorithm of different type TVR are set. Then, the switching, protection and control strategy of the TVR are studied. The voltage regulation strategy is designed based on different power grid structures. To verify the main circuit and control strategy of the TVR, the model of the TVR is established based simulink. then the model is used for building the distribution network with DG system model, trying to use different strategies of voltage regulator on the distribution power generation system. Finally, the TVR, the capacitor and the DG of the coordinated operation is achieved.
