Recently, people's cultural demand and value orientation trend towards more and more diversification, special attention is paid to the spiritual enrichment. Under this social background, the entire museum community is aware that the idea of'Good wine needs no bush' is out of date., they agree that the only way for a long-term development is to introduce visual image into the museum industry. The importance of a good visual image has been verified in business and practice of brand management. Whether from the business point of view or from a brand perspective, the thematic museums with their own visual image system are necessary. But today, the theory of the visual image system is poor. The museums are often designed only with a logo, while without a complete system. The characteristics of the museums are often neglected, which makes the many of the detail links between the visual environment ignored and the lack of visual impact, integrity and unity. So, the integration of visual image system and researches has an important role for improving the overall level of the museums.Design of the visual image of the museums does not only reflect the theme of the concept, but also to some extent act on behalf of their cultural connotations. Museums with different themes reflect different histories, cultures and human lives. While, the characteristics of the visual image are rule-based, and also full of innovative. Thematic museums, acting as social and cultural activities in public spaces, display the information to the audiences in a unique way. The dissemination of the visual information can not be reasonable, if the theoretical basis is not suitable. The spread carrier of the visual image for the museums is different from the enterprise applications. Application is not a result of the visual image design for the museums, the essence is to derive visual symbols and spread them out. Nowadays, thematic museums have been improved largely in terms of the form, concept and technology. The carrier of visual communication is also updated regarding the design concepts and technology. More and more materials and new technology feature are applied in the visual image design for a new look. The spread carrier becomes increasingly diversified, interesting, popular, and user-friendly. The audiences can participate and operate when obtaining information.This paper argues that "cultural themes - visual symbols - visual spread"are indiscerptible in the visual image system. Culture is the core, the visual symbol is the center and the carrier application is outside.This paper also proposes that special attention should paid to the cultural theme of the museums, while improving the visual symbol system, broadening the visual communication carriers, and creating a new visual image of the museums.This paper, based on above theories, combining the visual image design examples both home and abroad, is able to offer reference of visual image design for thematic museums.
