Self-propelled deck barge belong to deck carrier which with own engine. The ships have large cargo area on the deck for transporting ore sand, engineering materials and major bulks etc. in the port. The advantage of the self-propelled deck barge is simple structure and device, convenient for construction, low cost and management maintenance cost, high-usage. So it is very popular with customers. But in order to reduce the cost, the structures of the ships are always close to the minimums that Regulations permited. In the service the accident may be happened with the ship due to its lack of structure strength. Then conomic losses and casualties caused. So it is necessary to research the structural strength of the ships.For the deck carrier, the classification societies provide only part of the rules for checking drawings. There are some difference opinions on the requirements of marine technology between ship design units and classification societies. Deck carrier plan approval guide were established for this ship by Ship Inspection Bureau of Zhejiang Province. However, the guidelines have limited using areas. It is necessary to use an intuitive and effective method to study the structural strength of such vessels.The generation of direct calculation method of the finite element solved the problem probability. The hull structure discrete model can accurately simulate the load and deformation of the finite elements. For the main structural members, according to the distribution of membrane force status, rods, plates, shells and beams and other elements to express. This paper selects the 96m,85m,75m series of deck barge as research objects, using SESAM of DNV, established the ship hydrodynamic model, Calculated for each condition the distribution of bending moment along the vessel and the corresponding frequency response, the design wave height of this sea areas, laid the vessel in the regular wave, and adjusted the floating state, obtained wave-front equation in various conditions. Established finite elements model of the ship by MSC.patran, according to the selected load conditions applied relevant loading, then calculated the model. This paper adopted a direct calculation of the finite element method, the most dangerous working conditions in the ship when the stress level of each component is lower than the allowable stress. The ship used in finite element analysis finite element method overcomes the limitations of cabin analysis method, finite element analysis results to be more reasonable and accurate. It also shows the structure strength is adequate which according to the deck carrier guidelines for calculation of the structure and drawings. The series vessels calculation provides a reference for the subsequent vessels.
