To meet the loading and unloading demands of large container terminal and large container ship, a new container terminal handling technology was proposed, which is to load and unload the containers synchronously within the same bay. Being guided by the modern system scientific ideas, this handling technology was based on the analysis of the existing problems between the yard's conventional handling technology and the quay's within-a-bay synchronous handling technology. By using system modeling and analysis method, within-a-bay synchronous handling technology was studied in detail, the suitable yard equipment selection was obtained, and plane layout form was expounded. The major researches are as follows:Firstly, after analyzing the basic cargo loading principles of container ship, four special principles were proposed to meet the within-a-bay synchronous technical characteristics:same port same bay, same port less bays, same port far bay, same bay same containers. Arrangement like this can make more opportunities for container shipping executive with within-a-bay synchronous handling;Secondly, loading and unloading synchronously in the container terminal yard were researched in details, and the stacking strategy of "same ship same bay" (3S-B) was discussed. "3S-B" means to stack both the export and import containers of the same ship in the same yard-bay at the same time. By stacking like this, the truck executive handling tasks can load an export container immediately after it unloads an import container, and so the truck can drive forth and back full-loaded between the quay and stockyards. To cooperate with the quay, handling efficiency of wharf can be improved quickly while using within-a-bay synchronous handling technology in the stockyards;Thirdly, based on system modeling technology and within-a-bay synchronous handling technology, three conceptual models and a traffic model of container terminal handling system were built. Further more, four one-bay simulation models were established on witness, they are based on RMG with no cantilever, single cantilever RMG, double cantilever RMG and RTG..Besides, two more plane layout simulation models of container terminal system based on RTG and double cantilever RMG within-a-bay handling technology were also established;Finally, the simulation experiment based on those models have been made, after a deep research on the running results of the simulations, test results show that:in the same level comparable technical conditions, double cantilever RMG within-a-bay synchronous handling tasks executed the highest efficiency, which is about twice as many other processes. So we can select the double cantilever RMG as the best yard equipment selection, and the double cantilever RMG within-a-bay synchronous handling technology as the optimal handling technology.
