Traditional ships need to be loaded a certain amount of ballast water to ensure the appropriate floating state in empty running, but the transport of ballast water has brought a serious ecological disaster, at present there are many kinds of ballast water treatment methods which can not completely eliminate problems caused by ballast water, transporting and handling of ballast water have some shortcomings such as time-consuming, energy-consuming, expensive and so on. In order to solve the problems caused by ballast water, marine experts hope to design a ship which is able to have appropriate floating state in empty running without being loaded ballast water and which removes the dependence of traditional ships to ballast water.Currently there are three design directions of no ballast water ship:V-shape Hull, Through-Flow System Hull and Monomaran Hull. In this article V-shape Hull is selected as research direction. V-shape hull shows prominent V shape downwards by generating a rising angle of the bottom, V-hull vessels compared to the traditional ship have greater draft in the same displacement.In this paper,35000t bulk carrier is selected as the mother ship which is transformed to a series of V-shape hull, the transforming must ensure that the mother ship and V-shape hulls have the same displacement in design draft, that is to ensure the mother ship and the V-shape hulls have the same cross section area in design draft. The transforming is completed by changing the rising angle of the bottom and width, then calculating the design draft of V-shape hulls according to the principle of keeping the cross section area in design draft unchanged.Hydraulic calculation, structural design and weight calculation are carried out to V-shape hulls, then three floating states are selected and the range of principal dimensions of V-shape hulls which needn't to be loaded ballast water in this floating states are presented.Wetted surface area, initial stability, roll cycle, maneuverability and so on are also carried out, the influence of principal dimensions to the items above is talked about too.
