Tentatively Research On Contemporary Architectural Design Based On Thought Of Zen

With stead economic growth of China, architectural culture has came into a turbulent age in the decades, which is obviously different from the diversity in the Spring and Autumn period. On the contrary, current architectural culture reflects the confusion and befuddlement of the lost architects who are born in the ages of the discontinuous Chinese traditional culture and the intensive western culture. Tremendous appearance and western flavor have been blindly chased by many architects, whose works are difficult to find the expression of the Chinese traditional architectural culture. Meanwhile, fast-paced life and high-intensive competition cause a great pressure on our daily life, which make people be hungry for spiritual comfort. All these phenomena remind us of Zen, a basic concept in the Chinese traditional culture, which emphasizes "Buddha roots in your bottom heart", "knowing you from the heart", "stressing savvy", "cherishing freedom", which shows the advanced living and aesthetic concepts in the Chinese traditional culture. In this paper, it begins with Zen ideology. As extended discussions, it refers some historical Zen architectures as examples. To compare with, it also shows the differences from the modern architectural theories and their applications. With exploring architectural Zen ideology, it finally proposes some architectural ideas and space construction techniques in the Chinese modern architecture.
