The Research Of Innovative Mode Of Engineering Leadership Development

Since the reform and opening up, China has achieved some success in economic growth and technological innovation. However, the growth proportion of technical progress lag behind the economic growth rate, reflecting the shortage of attributes and capacity of engineering talents. In order to achieve the transfer from the "manufacturing" to "create", we must cross from bottom to top of engineering value chain. And thus we come to the question:how can we bridge the gap between 'manufacturing'and 'create'? Thus, it is of great significance to develop global leaders equipped with the advanced creativity and problem-defining capabilities, planning skills, and capacity to effectively execute ideas needed to play leading roles in shaping the development of science and technology in today's world. Such individuals will help to overcome and solve some of the many problems faced by the international community, and contribute to the sustainable development of humanity. It is of great importance to enhance the capacity of leadership of engineers, as we can see from the reports. However, there is still a shortage of engineering leadership education in engineering education in China. Thus, we may urge to educate engineers with advanced creativity and innovative capability, especially leadership.This study is to reveal the current problems in engineering education, analyze new needs from industries and design appropriate development program for Chinese engineering leadership education. By adopting a comparative approach, this dissertation will analyze the program structure and focus of international good practices, such like Gordon-MIT engineering leadership program (MIT), Leadership in a Technological Environment (Monash University), and then discuss the proper program in the practice of China.
