| As the traffic volume of the marshalling station is on the increase, the field staff are under greater workloads, who work at the posts related to train identification, commodity inspection and train inspection. Generally, they exchange data with the interior staff through printing consist information, exchanging freights tickets and conducting interphone communication. With the widespread use of the computer system in marshalling station, the automation of system is significantly promoted. Therefore, the field staff are unable to meet the requirements of the whole system if they still adopt the outdated ways of working. On the basis of this background, the thesis involves the following researches and the principle findings are summarized as follows:Firstly, the thesis makes a needs analysis of the operation of Lanzhou Marshalling Station and then works out a more advanced method, in which the part or the total of outdoor workers' work can be completed by means of handheld devices. Specifically they can take use of updated wireless network technology and set up an efficient communication channel with interior staff.Secondly, in regard to the results of empirical investigation, the thesis carries out a design on subsystem of field operation system and develops an information system, which can achieve the two-way, real-time transmission and sharing among workers. This system contributes to improving the work efficiency as it can avoid the human errors and reduce the staff's movement. Consequently, Lanzhou Marshalling Station will play a vital role in providing good service for the transportation and production, and making more profits.At present, Lanzhou Marshalling Station is still under construction. Due to the factor of time, this thesis just conducts the needs analysis, system design, the draft design of softwares and develops some functions of handheld devices. In the future, the author will continue to focus on the implementation of the system.
