Reasonable layout of railway marshalling station, which means that within the railway network the location can be correctly selected and the scale can be determined suitably and economically according to train flow, natural concentration and dispersion law (i.e. production, departure and distribution law of train flow), is the component part of railway transportation productivity layout. Proper layout and division of marshalling station is not only very important to improve the efficiency and level of transportation and production, to guarantee the safety and smooth flow of railway network, and to accelerate the locomotive & rolling stock turnover, but also to shorten freight delivery time, to increase economic and social benefits and to promote the sustainable development of railway transportation industry.This study centers on layout planning method of marshalling station, focuses on theory research and applies with algorithms and examples. Because the research on layout planning method of marshalling station is not mature at present, especially in the application of advanced optimizing method, it is rare. Therefore, making full use of the current research results during the study and integrating qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis , the dissertation established theoretic method system of marshalling station layout planning by adopting the research methods of related subjects, such as system science , optimization theory , comprehensive evaluation technology, statistics, operations research, etc. The contents mainly include the following aspects:(1)The meaning of marshalling station layout was formulated, theprinciple was determined , the influencing factors wereanalyzed, and planning procedure and steps were decided;(2) According to layout requirements , railway network wasabstracted and simplified, and network model was constructed. Then the calculation method of node flow within network was investigated and the concept of node importance was presented and the calculation method was given so as to select the alternative marshalling stations;(3)The features of marshalling station were discussed. which belonged to a double-layer planning problem. The upper and lower layer problems were studied respectively, and the double-layer planning model of layout problem was built and the corresponding genetic algorithm was designed;(4) The essence and importance of layout planning scheme evaluation was represented, the evaluation indexes system was set up and its quantization was emphasized. On the basis of layout planning evaluation problem, the evaluation method based on weighted grey correlation was presented;(5)The conventional marshalling station classification methods were analyzed and the inadaptability was pointed out. By introducing the basic principles of fuzzy clustering analysis method and comparing the classification problems with fuzzy clustering analysis, their features match with each other, then the method was proved to be valid with an illustration;(6) The present status and existing problems of our railway marshalling station layout were set forth, and the developing trend overseas were discussed, finally the layout adjustment schemes during the new era were expounded.To sum up, the study concluded the research working and results, presented several innovation and finally the further work was prospected.
