Environmental Psychology-based Study Of Residential Interior Design

Throughout history, the styles of interior decoration emerge one after another. Whether classical or modern, whether Eastern or Western, good design styles vary from person to person. We can say that there is not the best design, but only the most suitable design. As for residential interior design, practicability has been in development and application in human engineering, however, research on human's heart has not been concerned yet. The research of environmental psychology in some aspect is helpful for designers to grasp human's inward world.In the residential indoor space, the analysis of human perception can help us to know people's acceptance level to the information in the space. How the information in the environment stimulates people is the final result we chase. Every designer hopes to get positive feedback, which is an arousal result formed after environmental information stimulates human. Arousal level varies, depending on the acquired experience of living and learning. A questionnaire is used to do the experiential experiments, which obtains the expected results and proves the existence and influence of this experience.The debate on that less is more and less is boring exists all along. From the trends in history, we can see the simplicity and complexity of decoration are interchangeable. A period of simplicity will be definitely converted to complexity after its complete prosperity, and complexity is no exception. In other words, when a thing reaches its extreme, it reverses its course. This is human's natural reaction because of the long time stimulation of the same information. From the aspect of the environment consistent with theory, this type of information brings people stimulus information of numbness, that's to say, people do not focus on this type of information at all after the aesthetic fatigue appears. Instead the opposite type of information gains attention gradually.In the actual design work, the theory of behavior constraint is often ignored. The designer appears to be helpless to the repeated changes of consumer. The revision suggestion of the designer's scheme proposed by the consumer is the reflection of the consumers to their right of control. Residential space is absolutely personal space, and its consumer's control right shall not be infringed. Thus the consumer's reaction after the control right being infringed draws attention. The consequence of consumer's losing control right is likely to turn completely negative under the condition of being partly positive, which hits the designer largely. If not knowing the related theory, misunderstanding can be caused easily.So in this thesis, the sound effects in the residential space are put into a position of attention. Research has shown that noise can affect interpersonal relationships, and do harm to human as well. In china, an aging country, old people's rooms should become specially studied categories, and Children's rooms are no exception. It is especially important for old people and children to prevent harm from noise because their bodies are relatively weaker than the adults'Consequently, on the basis of theoretical research, this thesis analyzes the current popular decorative styles in order to find the impact of environmental psychology on the residential decoration.
