In the increasingly competitive market circumstances, to adopt new technologies and new methods to improve product competitiveness has become the main way. Finite element method based on computer-aided engineering (CAE) is widely used in simulation and design of the automotive structure field. Automotive structural engineers can more fully consider the impact of different loads on the vehicle in the calculation.Because of the computer hardware and software limitations and the current requirement on actual design, finite element modeling for the whole vehicle was not widely applied. Finite element simulation of the tank model is still in a dominant position in special vehicles analysis at present. In this dissertation, the model is based on some type of oil tank body from Yongqiang automobile manufacturing Co., Ltd., Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. According to Chinese standard GB 18564.1-2006 "road transportation of dangerous goods tank cars of liquid" and the characteristics of integral frame of vehicles, oil tank body with aluminium alloy is restructured based on the same type tank body with steel. Creo Element/Pro 5.0 with the powerful abilities of the designing of the curve and surface is utilized to make the whole assembly model, including the tank body and the frame. Then the whole model is imported to ABAQUS, a finite element software, to execute pretreatment. ABAQUS is used to do structure strength analysis and enables us to make a judgement on whether the strength is enough or not. Loads considered in different cases include:the gravity of tank body itself, liquid pressure and gravity, wind, inertial force. Finite element analysis procedure is used to analyse the tank displacement, strain and stress distribution in several cases.According to the analysis results, the following conclusions can be achieved:(1) The big stress in the tank body and frame mainly happened at the envelope and the suspending ears; (2) In braking case, stress concentration was generated in the region around the pin top (or above the front beam); (3) the tank envelope showed a certain big deformation; (4) The empty tank will not make tanker structural frequency resonance. The analyzing result of this dissertation can detect hidden dangers of accidents, prolong operating life, improve safety for the lorry and avoid or reduce economic losses. In addition, the result provides a scientific theoretical basis for modern design methods, enriching the application of the modern design in practice.
