Guangzhou Martyrs Cemetery`s Development

When Guangzhou was in Republic of China ,there have been many large-scale military cemeteries around the hills south of Baiyun Mountain where located in the eastern suburbs of Guangzhou.That can be called a historical spectacle.But today,after the benefits of war, the Cultural Revolution , Guangzhou city `s high-speed development and so on, most of the military cemeteries have been annihilation. The military cemeteries preserved and the martyrs cemetery newly built after the new China, together,that constitute the existing Martyrs Memorial Garden in Guangzhou.They are important sites in Guangzhou on modern revolutionary memory formation, important evidence for Guangzhou as the cradle of modern revolution and important historical and cultural resources in Guangzhou.At the same time, it is a unique building type, a special cemetery garden and an important carrier of Chinese traditional monument culture.Based on reading and analysing a large number of historical datas in archives and books written by fomer scholars,combining the field research, this paper attempts to discover the spatial distribution of the martyrs cemetery in Guangzhou, reproduce a historical picture, provide an explanation for the formation of a specific regional pattern of Guangzhou city today.At the samne time, this paper can been seen as supplement about historical data collection on"Xinhai"one hundred years.In addition,this paper summarizes the general characteristics of the monumental space within the existing Martyrs Memorial Garden in Guangzhou.It can provide information for future planning and construction of martyrs cemetery. The paper also reveals some problems faced by the existing Martyrs Memorial Garden in Guangzhou,hoping to attract more attention and widely discussed.The full text is divided into five chapters.First,introducing the origin, function, development and management of the Martyrs Memorial Garden in Guangzhou;and then focusing on elaborating the distribution pattern of martyrs cemetery and explaining the formation, summarizing the general characteristics of the monumental space within the martyrs cemetery in Guangzhou.
