Application Of Bagged Sand Embanking Technology Regulation On Super Soft Foundation

Since the 1980s, the geotextile banking technology has experienced a great development with the wide spread and application in China. Of the all the methods, the bagged sand banking technology has been paid more attention since there are more engineering examples about embanks built on soft and sand foundation, but merely on the super soft ones. Such case was discussed in this paper focusing on a newly implemented contraction, named as the first phase southward enclosing sea engineering of port area of Yueqing Bay project, which has 12m-high-bag-sand embankment built on the 30m-super-soft foundation. The application of the design of embank structure on super soft foundation was mainly discussed, which indicates many advantages of bagged sand, i.e. low cost, short period and high integral stability ect.Combined with the practical engineering, the bagged sand banking technology was introduced in the paper. And the proper design for the structure of embank was proposed through analyzing the super soft foundation, while the stability and feasibility were also presented by calculating the safety factor and settling amount. Meanwhile, the key points of the construction were detailed presented, so do the construction progress. Moreover, the experience drawn from the construction was listed in the angle of design and construction, which might provide some help for the similar engineering in the future.It is the first time that huge geotextile banking teconolgy applied on the super soft foundation, which provides a significant meaning of innovation and reference values for similar projects in the future.
