The historic buildings are different from historical and cultural relics, their greatest feature is still valued in using. They continue to be used by people in daily life. They are important structures of the city and important part of historical features which carrier of people's lives and history memories. In recent years, Shanghai has made a lot of effort to deal with the issue of urban development and construction. Many people with lofty ideals of modern architecture are committed to the protection and reuse study. There are lots of practical successful examples.Modern garden villa in Shanghai is a unique modern architectural landscape, which widely distributed in Xuhui, Changning, Jing'an, Luwan and Hongkou districts. There are a large number of protecting and reusing theoretical research and engineering practice about the modern architecture at present, but the research on modern garden villas is relatively few. Although there are a number of practical excellent cases, because of protection measures are not timely or properly, many modern garden villas, especially the unreasonable reuse show ruined and messy situation. Therefore, the protection and reuse is pressing.This thesis states from the history preserved and reused in modern garden villas study of Shanghai, proposes the value and concept of protecting and reusing of modern garden villas, and mainly analyzes the protection and reuse situation of modern garden villas in Xuhui District. Combined with the relevant policies and regulations of our country and Shanghai City, the thesis analyses the shortage, together with conservation and reuse theory, then for practical issues to propose the protection and reuse model of modern garden houses in Xuhui District. It is a lesson on the Shanghai and the country's protection and reuse of modern garden villas to provide a theoretical guidance.This thesis is divided into six chapters, and the key elements are as follows:The first chapter is an introduction.
