Historic buildings complex were the public riches that had so much information from the past years and witnessed the changes of the history. Modernist is under an obligation to protect the heritance and make sure that the information will be saved completely so that people who lives in the future can research it like us. To reuse the historic buildings, it's not only facilitated to protect them, but also can continue the human being's memory of the city's history. It is useful to promote the culture's development of the community and the city. In order to make the architectural heritage to be competent for the new function entrusted by the society, it is necessary to do some certain conservation, regeneration and revision, extension to it in nowadays. Therefore, its vitality can be rehabilitated and it can promote the culture's development of the community and surrounding area.Hankow concession district of Britain is the residue of the significant foreign settlement that has been rented by Britain in the modern history of Wuhan. It has become an important part of the characteristic in the history and culture of the Wuhan city. On the one hand, the thesis starts from the survival of historic buildings in context of high speed urban development and points out the conservation and reuse strategy---to find out its significance value and reuse it by analyzing the basic concept and its history. On the other hand, the thesis also clarifies the rationality and inevitability of the strategy and the difficulties faced in China at present.Finally, on the basis of the investigation and analysis, the thesis explores the possible ways to reuse the historic buildings adaptively. According to the consideration of public concept, commonality policy and public participation, the suggestion for the specific steps of conservation and reuse of the historic buildings is proposed.
